Sunset

So, here I am in the library writing one of my final blogs for Writer's Craft. The task at hand is to desribe a sunset to a person who is visually impaired ('blind' isn't a dirty word, but I prefer to say it this way).

To my blind friend:

A sunet is one of the most beautiful things you will ever see. I suppose for you it is difficult to quantify what 'beautiful' is, but trust me, just hearing the word should make you understand. The sunset may not be something you can reach out and touch, but it reminds us that we do exist and that we are on this earth. Its colourful rays of yellow, orange and red light (and on occasion a soft pink or purple glow) splash across the earth. Its colour fills the sky with warmth and it's one of those moments you never forget and it never becomes monotonous. No sunset is ever the same as the one before it. Basically, this big ball of soft, yet vibrantly rich, colours floods your vision as it sinks lower and lower to the ground, disappearing a few minutes after you first see it. It's the most pleasant way to end your day, and the best way to start your night of sleep. On cold days, a sunset warms your heart and on warm days it makes you truly appreciate the beautiful weather. In any case, the sunset is one of those things that makes Mother Nature such a different animal - there's nothing like the natural and irreplicable beauty of a sunset.

Signed,

Samantha

Curse or Gift?

If I could travel forward in time or back in time, what would I do? It's a tough question, but I think I would go back in time; this would allow me to change things that I regret, and unfortunately, there are a few of them. As sad as it sounds, there are some people I wish I would never have met, some choice I wish I never had made, and most importantly, some words I wish I had never spoken. I would have gone to the Spice Girls reunion tour and I would have never over-fed my fish (all four of them). I would have started going to the gym sooner and I never would have let myself fall madly in love with junk food. Yes, there are many things I would fix if I had the chance to go back in time.

Is it a gift or a curse? Well, I think it's a gift. People say that you should never regret the things you have done, but what about those people, like me, and perhaps yourself, who DO regret some of the things they've done? We need the chance to go back and fix things. How can it be a curse? The only way time travel would be a curse was if it were to actually disturb the veru fabric of time, but until scientists can actually proove this, I choose to believe that it is a gift. If time travel allows me to go back and un-regret the things I've done, let me at it!

Sorry, You're Not Invited...

I'm hosting a fictional party and I'm only allowed to invite ten people. The party is a going to be a PIZZA party and it's going to be so fabulous! Who would I choose? Well, here's my list!

I'm going to invite:

1. BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG. Not only is he the lead singer of Green Day, but he's so handsome. I love him. 'nuff said.

2. Patrick Chan. He's 19, he skates, he's Canadian and he's an Olympian. Could he be any better?

3. Miley Cyrus. I would only invite her if she was dressed as Hannah Montanna, though. She's kind of a big loser when she's herself.

4. Kelly Clarkson. She has a truly beautiful voice and I find her to be so passionate about her music. Love her!

5. Sir Paul McCartney. He was a Beatle. And he's been knighted by the Queen! Who doesn't love this guy?

6. Dylan Godfrey. He's my boyfriend. I have to invite him. If I didn't, I'd be a jerk.

7. Victoria Marroccoli. Because a party isn't a party without her? I don't know...ask her. She swears by it.

8. Dean(ne) McCabe. She's decent. I tolerate her most days. She'd be fun to make fun of and I'd make her the entertainment for us. I'd make her talk...and then we'd all laugh at her.

9. Mrs. Young. Either the music teacher or Zac Young's mom. Either one works for me. One's a musician and one shares my birthdate. Yay Youngs.

10. Flapjacks. My rabbit. She knows how to use a litterbox. Does your rabbit do that? NO. Do you even have a rabbit? Probably not. Take that.

The Five Levels of Reading

According to my Writer's Craft teacher there are five levels of reading. Those five levels are:

1) Literal
2) Emotional
3) Moral
4) Symbolic
5) Hyperbolic (Anagogical)

With this new information, my class is supposed to devise a list of the best movies and/or books we have seen that fit into all of the five categories. This is my list:

1) Literal
-"The Black Donnellys", written by Thomas P. Kelly

2) Emotional
-"I Am Legend"

3) Moral
-"Aesop's Fables Collection"

4) Symbolic
-"Fahrenheit 451", written by Ray Bradbury

5) Hyperbolic
-"This is Spinal Tap"

So, there you have it. That's my list. Maybe you'll want to watch or read some of them. If I may take this opportunity, "This is Spinal Tap" is quite the movie and it's just so darn funny! I suggest you watch it.
